First Meet Reminders

Hello Tiger Sharks!

With our first meet tomorrow night, I wanted to send out a few reminders that might be helpful. Each host pool runs things a little bit differently, but many these tips will be generally helpful throughout the season.

Parking: Be sure to follow posted guidelines for parking. Give yourself enough time to find parking, and know that it might be on the street, or you may have to walk a little bit from where you parked.

Check in: As Coach Bobby sent out, swimmers should check in by 4:45. Generally, that means you should arrive BEFORE 4:45 in order to park and get to the pool in time to check in. Check in with a coach with a clipboard. TIPS: Bring sharpies to write events on your swimmer's arm or leg. Download and use the Swimtopia app to keep up to date with the meet.

Food: Swim meets are lengthy, so bring snacks and drinks, or plan to have cash to pay for concessions.

Seating: Bring camp chairs and blankets for seating. Host pools do not leave chairs and loungers out, so be sure to bring something to sit on. Some families like to bring pop up shelters to provide shade, as well. Often, teams will sit in generally the same area, so look for other 4S families to set up camp with at the meet.

Gear: If you have them, bring extra swim caps and goggles, just in case something breaks during the meet. We usually bring extra towels as well, since using a wet towel is no fun. As the sun sets, the temperature drops, so you may consider bringing sweatshirts, especially for swimmers who are wet and get chilled more easily. Bug spray can be helpful too.

Events: Be sure to keep an eye on the event board. There are two event numbers posted - one that is the current event, and one that is the event that is reporting. When an event is reporting, those swimmers should head to the blocks to get lined up for their events. For younger kids, they should look for their coaches who will help them line up for their races. After each race, swimmers should go see the coaches to get feedback on their race (and a little piece of candy).

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or ask another swim parent.
